DAYTON, OHIO -- L. David Mirkin, M.D., has been appointed acting chair of the Department of Pathology at Wright State University School of Medicine, effective September 1, 1999. He succeeds Al Batata, M.D., who retires in August.
Mirkin has served as a professor of pathology and pediatrics at Wright State since 1987. He is the director of Pathology and the Clinical Laboratory at the Children's Medical Center in Dayton.
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mirkin is a graduate of the Colegio Nacional Mariano Moreno there. He holds an M.D. degree from the University of Buenos Aires. He completed residency training in pathology at the Hospital de Niños Ricardo Gutiérrez in Buenos Aires and the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Before joining Wright State's faculty, Mirkin was a member of the pathology faculty at the University of Chile from 1970-76 and at Indiana University School of Medicine from 1976-87.
Mirkin is certified in anatomic and pediatric pathology by the American Board of Pathology. He is a Fellow of the College of American Pathology (FCAP). He is the author of three book chapters and more than 90 articles in medical journals.
