Wright State University Center for Healthy Communities offers continuing education seminar on ex-offender reentry

When ex-offenders reenter society, some of their biggest challenges include employment, transportation and housing.

To help ex-offenders in the Dayton area, the Center for Healthy Communities of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine is offering a seminar for various professionals including social workers, counselors and nurses on Tuesday, March 12, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Madison Lakes Learning and Conference Center (581 Olive Road) in Dayton.

The seminar will provide professionals with information related to ex-offenders and the reentry process. Professionals will use this information to assist clients and their families. In addition, participants will learn about state and local resources related to ex-offender reentry programs. The State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board has approved this event for 5.0 contact hours of continuing education.

The presenters include Jesse Williams, northwest regional director of prisons of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction; U.S. District Court Judge Walter H. Rice and Montgomery County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman, cochairs of the Montgomery County Office of Ex-Offender Reentry (MCOER); Colette M. Harrison, Ph.D., MCOER volunteers coordinator resource guide (ABD) and Public Leadership Community Social Service; Jamie Gee, MCOER manager; Amy Piner, MCOER program coordinator, administration; and Michael Ward, MCOER program coordinator, operations.

The Center for Healthy Communities HealthLink and the Ohio State Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Region IV present the annual series of continuing education quarterly seminars for health care professionals and interested community members. There is a $30 nonrefundable registration fee. Payment must be received by Feb. 27. Space is limited.
