Welcome

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences (DPPHS), formerly the Department of Community Health, is focused on improving health outcomes in all spheres. We provide education, conduct research and provide or promote service towards improving and sustaining the health of individuals and populations in our region and worldwide.

DPPHS consists of five academic divisions: Aerospace Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, International and Environmental Health, Health Systems and Policy and Social and Behavioral Determinants of Health. Two of its programs are department-wide: the Master of Public Health Program and the Physician Leadership Development Program. Other programs are assigned within one of the five academic divisions. Administrative and logistical support for departmental activities is coordinated through two operational centers: the DPPHS Education Center (3123 Research Blvd., Suite 200, Kettering, OH 45420) and the DPPHS Research Center (3171 Research Blvd., Kettering, OH  45420).

The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program uses resources and faculty from all five divisions. The first M.P.H. program in southwestern Ohio, it was founded in 2004. The program is fully accredited from the Council of Education in Public Health. Program alumni are currently serving as health commissioners and in key leadership positions in the health care industry. The M.P.H. program is located in the DPPHS Education Center. The program director of the M.P.H. program is Sara Paton, Ph.D., CPH.

The Physician Leadership Development Program (PDLP) provides an opportunity for Boonshoft School of Medicine medical students to obtain either and an M.P.H. or M.B.A. degree in addition to their M.D. degree in an innovative five-year program that emphasizes leadership training and experiences. The program director of the PDLP is Sabrina Neeley, Ph.D., M.P.H.
