Marilyn Kindig, D.O., named recipient of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award

Marilyn Kindig, D.O., assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, will be honored at the 33rd annual Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards. Kindig has been named the Health Equity and Awareness Award recipient for 2018.

Formerly of Lima, Ohio, she began working as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Boonshoft School of Medicine last year. She has been a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist for more than 18 years.

In addition to her work as a doctor, Kindig volunteers at Heartbeat of Lima, where she offers support to pregnant women in need. Kindig also works once a week at Coleman Behavioral Services in Lima, an organization that helps individuals struggling with drug addiction.

Kindig, along with six other individuals and organizations from around the state, will be honored at the 33rd Annual Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration. The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission. It is scheduled for Jan. 11 at Trinity Episcopal Church at 125 E. Broad St. in Columbus.

Kindig earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology through Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
