In the final year of training, residents begin a transition to practice model. The rotations are designed to represent the traditional mix of diseases seen by internists in both ambulatory and hospital settings. Third-year residents also take on more teaching responsibilities being responsible for the supervisor of two R1 residents during ward rotations. Upon completion of the final year, residents are expected to be ready to independently manage patients across the spectrum of clinical settings expected in Internal Medicine.
