Global Health Scholars travel the globe for service-learning opportunities

March 23, 2025

Kelsey Hammer, Emilia Kalutskaya, Emma Schroeder, Jacob Voelker, and Melissa Casella spent four weeks in Eswatini with The Luke Commission (TLC). Izzy Benintendi, Akshima Dhiman, Vinnie Ferrini, Nick Kress, and Lexi Westrick also spent four weeks in Eswatini with TLC.

"Wright State has a very robust global health training program that aligns with the goals of TLC. Through my global health training it’s always taught you’re there to serve the community with their needs and help healthcare workers that already work in those communities," Hammer said.

Daniel Boyes, Malika Day, Afryea, and Bira Williams spent two weeks in Peru on a rotation with Máximo Nivel.

"My time in Cusco, Peru was a truly unforgettable experience. We spent our mornings at a free clinic in Chinchero providing care to the underrepresented population there," Afryea said.

Katherine Wilcher and Kaylee Larsen spent two weeks in Ecuador with Cachamsi.

"Through the Global Health Scholars Program (GHSP) and Cacha Medical Spanish Institute (Cachamsi), we had the incredible opportunity to spend two weeks in Riobamba, Ecuador. Our learning was truly immersive, as we lived with a host family, engaged in diverse clinical environments, and participated in intensive Spanish courses," Wilcher and Larsen said.
