Himalayan Health Exchange - Dharamshala, India

Zach Eardley, MS4, and Saipriya Ayyar, MS4, spent 3 weeks with Himalayan Health Exchange.

Through their efforts, they helped many patients gain access to basic primary care. During the trip, they provided free clinics at multiple sites, including Tibetan schools, monasteries, and community sites. The most valuable content that they learned during this trip is the importance of including local community members to impact public health.

The Luke Commission - Eswatiti, Africa

Matt Huston, MS4, spent four weeks at The Luke Commission's Miracle Campus.

"What surprised me the most was the resilience and determination of all the TLC staff in times of great upheaval in funding TLC receives from international aid organizations. It was truly inspiring to see so many people dedicated to providing care to every last patient regardless of new challenges they faced in providing that care," Huston said.

Alumni Feature: Matthew Pellerite, M.D. - Class of 2009

Pellerite was connected to the global health program by Sarah Doorley, M.D. (class of 2005) who was a few years ahead of him and talked about her elective time in El Salvador. Pellerite had spent time in El Salvador as an undergrad and found it to be a really special place.

"I now teach a course to faculty on curriculum development...I ended getting to benefit from all of it - taking time to learn about and spend time in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Peru while a student," Pellerite said.
