From the Newsroom: "Wright State medical student perseveres to pursue lifelong dream"
September 26, 2024
First-year medical student Cherissa Garcia had to overcome many obstacles during her journey to becoming a doctor. With a bachelor's degree in Spanish and master's degree in Anatomy, Garcia struggled with confidence and reconsidered her dream of becoming a doctor. After working in the Dominican Republic for two years as an English instructor, Garcia returned to the United States and joined the Master of Public Health program at Wright State.
"I was working in the field and had been successful in the master’s program. Also, I was maturing and had learned how to apply my skills later. It was at this point that I decided to give medicine another try. I had tried another path, but medicine was drawing me back in," Garcia said.
