Society of Public Health Education recognizes professor and chair, provides research presentation opportunities

Dr. Marietta Orlowski, professor and chair of Population and Public Health Sciences, was awarded the 2024 Health Educator of the Year by the Ohio Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE) chapter. This distinguished award celebrates her extensive contributions to leadership, service, and mentorship within public health education and health promotion.
Additionally, Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) students showcased their research at the Ohio SOPHE annual meeting in October. MD/M.P.H. student Amber Prater presented research on school gardens, while Araam Abboud discussed the cycle of addiction in the perinatal period. Second-year M.P.H. students Katie Reed and India Meyer shared posters on harm reduction and using qualitative research to understand ACEs and substance use disorder, respectively. Faculty from the Boonshoft School of Medicine, including Sydney Silverstein, Ph.D.; Amanda Hinson-Enslin, Ph.D., M.P.H.; Marietta Orlowski, Ph.D.; Sara Baker, M.P.H.; Kathy Taylor; and Priya Small, M.P.H., also presented their work. The three-day conference gathered public health professionals from across Ohio, with the Boonshoft faculty and students making substantial contributions.
