DAYTON, OHIO-The Dayton area's Know Your Numbers campaign was presented with the "Excellence in Health Information" award and the "Healthy People 2010" award during the 10th Annual Health Information Awards held by the National Health Information Resource Center. These awards represent two of three major awards given by the National Health Information Resource Center. The campaign also received the Silver Award for the category "Total Health Information." These awards recognize Know Your Numbers as among the nation's best consumer health information programs.
The Know Your Numbers campaign emphasizes the importance of knowing one's own blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and waist measurement numbers. Know Your Numbers publishes information about scheduled local health screenings and general facts about heart health for the public.
Area partners for Know Your Numbers include: the American Heart Association, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, The Dayton Heart Hospital, General Motors, NCR, Pfizer, Premier Health Partners, Sanofi-Synthelabo, United Healthcare, The Wellness Connection, and Wright State University School of Medicine. In addition to support from the partners, the Know Your Numbers campaign receives partial funding by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, NIH, DHHS. The area coalition is led by Richard Schuster, M.D., M.M.M., the Oscar Boonshoft chair and director of the Division of Health Systems Management, and associate professor in the Departments of Community Health and Internal Medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine.
"The Know Your Numbers program was selected from more than 1,100 entries that were judged by a national panel of health information experts," states Schuster. "We are honored to be selected as one of the national winners, and to be recognized as a program that is effective in helping the public in becoming better informed about their health."
The Health Information Resource Center is a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. It promotes the distribution of accurate, timely consumer health information materials to professionals and managers in the field of medicine.
