DAYTON, OHIO - Wright State medical students won first, second, and third place prizes in the Sixth Annual "Healer as Artist" exhibit. Mary White, Ph.D., associate professor of community health, and Judi Engle, director for strategic communications and public relations, were co-directors of the event. Sixty-one entries were submitted by faculty, staff, and students from the Boonshoft School of Medicine. The entries included various works of art such as paintings, photographs, drawings, poems, sculptures, and pottery.
First place award went to Andrew Maley, Year I medical student, for his origami mosaic titled "Frozen Kaleidoscope." The second place award went to Seethal Jacob, Year I medical student, for her painting "Untitled." Third place was awarded to Shaminder Bhullar, Year III medical student, for his photos at an orphanage titled "Chennai, India: A Tsunami's Wake."
The "Healer as Artist" exhibit was prominently displayed in the lobby of the Frederick A. White Center for four weeks. Students, faculty, staff, and guests were invited to vote for their favorite pieces. The art exhibit ended with a reception where the three People's Choice winners were announced and presented with their awards. George Bussinger of McCallisters Art Supplies generously donated the gift certificates for the winners.
