BSOM follows the Wright State University Withdrawal Policy.
Module/Clerkship/Elective Withdrawal Procedures
If for whatever reason a student can no longer take a module/clerkship/elective in which they are enrolled, they must notify the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) scheduling team (som-scheduling@wright.edu) no less than 30 days prior to the start of the module/clerkship/elective in order for the student’s schedule to be updated accordingly.
Any student who for whatever reason cannot attend or appropriately participate in their scheduled module/clerkship/elective must notify the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions and the Manager of Financial Aid no later than two (2) days past the start of the module/clerkship/elective. Once a module/clerkship/elective begins, it will appear on the student’s official transcript with the appropriate withdraw designation. Failure to notify the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions and Manager of Financial Aid in a timely manner may result in a student receiving an F (Failure) instead of a withdraw. Students must be aware that a withdrawal from any module/clerkship/elective may impact financial aid.
A student may be eligible for full or partial tuition and/or fee refund depending on the date of withdrawal, in accordance with the BSOM Tuition and Fee Refund Policy.
Transcript Grade
In alignment with Wright State University policy, the following algorithm is how transcript grades will be determined in the case of withdrawal.
| Percent of Module/Clerkship/Elective Completed | Consideration | Transcript Grade |
|---|---|---|
| <30% | Regardless of academic performance | No grade recorded |
| 30-65% | At time of withdrawal had passing average | WP |
| 30-65% | At time of withdrawal had failing average | WF |
| >65% | No option to withdraw | Fail or Pass (no W) |
Once withdrawal deadlines have passed, the student will be assigned a grade when the module/clerkship/elective ends. Once the grade is posted, the grade may be appealed following the BSOM Appeals Policy.
MD Program Withdrawal Procedure
Students interested in withdrawing from the MD program must meet with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions and the BSOM Manager of Financial Aid. Students must be aware that a withdrawal from the MD program may impact financial aid.
Administrative Adjustment
BSOM's Assistant Registrar in the Office of Student Affairs may approve petitions that involve errors or require a retroactive administrative drop for verified non-attendance. Such petitions must come from a BSOM faculty or staff member; submissions from students will not be considered. BSOM students are encouraged to discuss these petitions with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions.
