Upstream Medicine

Module Description: Upstream Medicine introduces students to the population-level social determinates of health, health disparities, health economics and insurance, prevention and health promotion, and the value of community resources for health improvement.  Students will also learn how to interview patients to determine social determinants needs that may impact patient health, as well as a motivational interviewing framework that allows for working through patient obstacles to better health.  Students will engage in a field experience, working in small groups in a local clinic, connecting patients to community resources.
