Benefits

Health Issues:

  • Insurance plans to cover medical managed health care, dental, and vision coverage are available with the typical pre-existing condition clause waived.
  • Coverage is available for the medical residents and family members.
  • Annual health screening procedures are provided.
  • Short-term disability and long-term disability insurance policies are available.
  • The latter is an individual, non-cancelable policy with guaranteed conversion upon completion of the residency.
  • An employee assistance program offers free and confidential support for emotional, marital, family, financial, chemical dependency, and job stress problems.

Meals: On-duty meals are provided in the cafeteria for house staff at Kettering Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital.

Relocation Expenses: Reimbursement according to mileage.

  • R-I -  $59,962
  • R-II - $61,453
  • R-III - $62,785

Academic Stipend and Leave

The department provides all residents with an academic stipend that can be used on various items such as medical equipment, online educational subscriptions, books, memberships, courses, conferences, etc. This is in addition to the department paying for an Ohio ACEP membership for each resident. Each resident is also provided with academic leave to attend local, regional or national conferences, to take leave for Step 3, or to attend special courses that are consistent with career goals. Academic leave and stipends are as follows:

  • R-I: Three days and $1,000
  • R-II: Five days and $1,000
  • R-III: Five days and $1,000

Leave

Multiple policies for leave exist that are intended to maximize flexibility for the resident physician and his or her family. The leave policies are designed to accommodate specific needs, such as adoptive procedures, perinatal events, ill health, or death within the immediate family.

Vacation

Three weeks of vacation will be provided for all years.

Tobacco-Free

The Dayton Area Graduate Medical Education Community and Hospital maintain a drug-free and tobacco-free workplace. All new hospital employees are required to undergo drug testing as a condition of employment.

All hospital campuses are tobacco-free environments.
