Chief Residents
Aamir Akram, M.D.
Hey Everyone! My name is Aamir and I am one of the Dayton VA chiefs. I was born in India, lived in Japan for a couple of years, and moved to the US when I was 10. Maryland is my home and there is no arguing that it has the best state flag. I went to my beloved University of Maryland for undergrad and went to the beautiful island of St. Kitts for Medical School. I also did 2 years of Post-bac in between at the National Cancer Institute. When I am not busy with learning medicine or replying to a million emails, I enjoy weight lifting, watching sports, spending time with my family, and trying good food. My intuition is that my Ravens and Orioles will win their respective titles this year. I also love traveling and my life goal is to visit all the American National parks. So far I have only visited 5 so I have a lot to catch up on!
I picked Wright State because of a combination of strong clinical curriculum, excellent teaching faculty, and a culture of camaraderie. We are a combined civilian and military program with residents of both sides working at our 4 different clinical sites. These sites include a level 1 trauma center, a VA that is national historical landmark, an Air Force base at the birth place of aviation, and a federally qualified health center. This experience is truly unique and has helped me become a more well-rounded physician. Plus, Dayton has everything I ever wanted in a city without the traffic or high costs of living. I enjoyed my three years here and am honored to continue as a chief!
Alicia Latta, D.O.
Hi! My name is Alicia and I'm a Chief Resident at Wright-Patterson AFB. I'm originally from Boise, ID and completed my undergrad at The College of Idaho. After I went to Idaho State University for my master's degree before attending Pacific Northwest University in Yakima, WA for medical school. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, hiking or camping, and spending as much time in the sun as possible. Being outside in the mountains or on the beach is my happy place.
Isaac Pearce, D.O.
Hi! My name is Isaac and I am the Chief Resident at Miami Valley Hospital. I was born and raised in Southington, OH and went to Youngstown State University for undergrad and Ohio University for medical school. I chose WSU for residency because I valued the autonomy, hands on learning, and close-knit environment. In my free time, I enjoy video games, weightlifting, and kayaking.
Kamil Salam, D.O.
Hey everyone! My name is Kamil Salam and I'm one of the VA Chief Residents and also the Research Chief. I'm originally from Columbus, Ohio, went to Ohio State University for undergrad and stayed in the area for medical school at Ohio University's Dublin Campus. I chose Wright State University for my residency training because of the strength and diversity of the training, as well as the camaraderie among the residents. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my friends and family.
Christopher Yard, M.D.
Hey everyone! My name's Chris Yard, and I'm one of the chief residents at Wright-Patterson AFB. I spent essentially all of my life in South Jersey (the better Jersey) until moving to Ohio as an active duty resident. I went to my undergrad at Rowan University and got my degree in Psychology, then went to their affiliated medical school at Cooper Medical School in Camden, NJ. I was a contractor from age 14 – med school, so I enjoy spending my time working with my hands doing odd-jobs, renovations, manual labor, etc. I'm a huge computer nerd and like gaming, amateur coding, and keeping up with technology. I'm also an amateur musician (which is what I would do if I weren't in medicine) and enjoy recording, mixing, and mastering cover songs. My future career goal is to stay in graduate medical education, teaching residents and students, primarily on the inpatient side – so I'm very excited to be a chief resident here at Wright-State this year!
