Apply

All applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us. Interviews are scheduled by invitation from October through December. Residency positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Our typical candidate has both USMLE, or equivalent COMLEX, scores above 210 or “pass” on the first attempt, OR a letter of support from a U.S. medical school or hospital faculty member related to time spent on a clerkship, externship, or observership.

International graduate applicants will not be considered for interview without results of all USMLE steps. If an international applicant has graduated from medical school, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) must report completed/verified medical education credentials before the applicant will be considered for interview. U.S. clinical experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Military Student Applications

The Internal Medicine Residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) is partnered with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and allows for training of internists serving in the United States Air Force.  In addition to the residents selected traditionally through the NRMP, about 12-15 military residents are selected each year to work alongside their civilian counterparts. This unique relationship with BSOM allows all residents to learn and train at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Miami Valley Hospital (regional Level 1 trauma center), and the Dayton VA Medical Center. We offer a military-unique curriculum with dedicated lectures, additional training, and specialized rotations for military residents such as the surgical intensive care unit.

Military sponsorship is often available to travel and present research at national conferences such as the annual Tri-Service American College of Physicians (ACP) chapter meetings.  Most recently, eleven military residents competed at the National Army/Air Force ACP chapter meeting, receiving first prizes in the categories of original research, quality improvement, and high-quality care.

Interested Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) or Uniformed Services University (USU) applicants should apply through the military match program. Additionally, HPSP or USU students may reach out to our Air Force program administrator Bridget Tschippert (bridget.tschippert.civ@health.mil) to schedule an active-duty rotation.
