Research

The Research Division within the Department of Psychiatry is committed to advancing excellence in scholarship across key focus areas, including intellectual disability, medical education, psychotherapy, and collaborative research. We proudly highlight our collective achievements at the Annual Scholarly Symposium each spring, where faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students present their work. Many of these projects have been featured at prestigious national and international conferences, demonstrating the impact of our research.

The Division collaborates closely with The Ohio State University's SOAR (State of Ohio Adversity and Resilience) study, contributing to groundbreaking research on resilience and its implications for mental health. Additionally, our partnership with the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, particularly the Center for Interventions, Treatment, and Addictions Research (CITAR), enables us to tackle healthcare disparities through innovative mixed-methods approaches.

Ongoing projects include systematic reviews on critical topics such as managing aggression in individuals with intellectual disabilities, psychological mindfulness, and substance use disorders. Residents and medical students are actively supported in conducting research across a wide range of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions, fostering the next generation of clinician-researchers.
