Policy 11: Faculty Titles

Adopted: September 2001

Regular: fully affiliated faculty employed by Wright State University full time on a continuing basis; subject to continuance

  • Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Instructor
  • Professor Emeritus

Annually Renewable: fully affiliated faculty employed by Wright State under special contracts, renewable contingent on continued funding; not subject to continuance

  • Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Instructor

The modifier Research may be used for faculty whose primary academic commitment is research.

  • Research Professor
  • Research Associate Professor
  • Research Assistant Professor
  • Research Instructor

Institutional: fully affiliated faculty employed by affiliated institutions whose duties are primarily academic and in support of the education of Boonshoft School of Medicine (School) students and trainees; contingent on affiliated institutional employment.

  • Professor

  • Instructor

Voluntary: partially affiliated faculty who volunteer their time to the School
The modifier Clinical is used for clinical faculty:

  • Clinical Professor
  • Clinical Associate Professor
  • Clinical Assistant Professor
  • Clinical Instructor
  • Clinical Professor Emeritus
  • Clinical Professional Associate

The modifier Adjunct is used for non-clinical faculty:

  • Adjunct Professor
  • Adjunct Associate Professor
  • Adjunct Assistant Professor
  • Adjunct Instructor

Resident: residents and fellows in training.
No modifier is used for trainees in programs sponsored by the School

  • Fellow Instructor
  • Resident Instructor

The modifier Clinical is used for trainees in programs sponsored by affiliated institutions

  • Clinical Fellow Instructor
  • Clinical Resident Instructor

Visiting:

  • Visiting Professor
  • Visiting Associate Professor
  • Visiting Assistant Professor
  • Visiting Instructor
