Faculty Awards
Overview
The Boonshoft School of Medicine Faculty Awards provide a unique opportunity to celebrate those who exhibit a strong commitment to all three academic pillars; teaching, research, and service while serving as a role model to students, residents and colleagues.
All Boonshoft SOM faculty are eligible for nomination and may nominate a candidate for the award.
Nominations
The nomination letter (up to 2 typed pages) and any accompanying documents should be sent to the Faculty Promotion and Advancement Committee, c/o The Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. Please email the nomination as a single file to Dr. Priti Parikh, Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at priti.parikh@wright.edu.
Types of Awards
- Excellence in Resident Education Award: This award recognizes those who have a significant impact on the educational experience of our Residents through their teaching, leadership, and engagement with the curriculum.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Development of new educational programs, innovative teaching/evaluation methods and their impact on learners. Classroom teaching, didactics,
- Teaching on social media, or clinical bedside teaching with high evaluations from learners
- Any local/regional/national/international awards received for their educational efforts

- Excellence in Undergraduate and/or Graduate Education Award: This award recognizes those who have a significant impact on the educational experience of our undergrad and/or graduate students through their teaching, leadership, and engagement with the curriculum.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Development of new educational programs, courses, teaching/evaluation methods, and their impact on learners
- Classroom/online teaching with high evaluations from learners
- Any local/regional/national/international awards received for their educational efforts

- Excellence in Medical Student Education Award: This award recognizes those who have a significant impact on the educational experience of our Medical Students through their teaching, leadership, and engagement with the curriculum.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Type of teaching and leadership activities in which the nominee has engaged
- Development of new educational programs, courses, teaching/evaluation methods, and their impact on learners and the overall medical education environment at BSOM

- Innovation in Medical Student Education Award: The Innovation in Medical Student Education Award recognizes outstanding achievements in medical student education by faculty members particularly in the development of new, innovative educational initiatives or programs.
- Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Description of the new and innovative educational initiative(s) or program(s) which the nominee has developed
- Descriptions of how the nominee’s contributions to the educational initiative(s) or program(s) have impacted curriculum development, the educational experience of our medical students, and the medical education environment at BSOM
- Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Faculty Development for Medical Student Education Award: The Faculty Development for Medical Student Education Award recognizes faculty who have dedicated extensive time in developing themselves as medical student educators through faculty development.

- Description of the variety of faculty development activities in which the nominee has engaged
- Description of the how nominee’s participation in faculty development have impacted his/her contributions to medical student curriculum development, scholarly activities, and to the medical education environment at BSOM

- Excellence in research and scholarship (clinical department): This award honors faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, innovation, and impact in their scholarly pursuits, advancing knowledge and contributing significantly to their field of study in the Clinical Department of BSOM.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide brief narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Impact of the nominee’s research and scholarship on the recruitment, retention, or curriculum development for the medical school or graduate program
- A consistent record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and national/regional/local presentations showcasing originality, relevance, and scholarly rigor
- Implementation of and/or participation in translational research
- Any local/regional/national/international awards received for their research efforts

- Excellence in research and scholarship (non-clinical department): This award honors faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, innovation, and impact in their scholarly pursuits, advancing knowledge and contributing significantly to their field of study in the Non-Clinical Department of BSOM.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide brief narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- A consistent record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, showcasing originality, relevance, scholarly rigor, and impact
- A consistent record of success in obtaining extramural funding, participation in extramural grant review and/or study section
- Implementation of translational research
- Any local/regional/national/international awards received for their research efforts

- Excellence in service (including service to the department, BSOM, and/or WSU): This award recognizes those faculty who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, leadership, and impact through their service contributions to the institution, department, or community.

Nomination letter (up to 2 pages) should provide brief narrative and evidence, including but not limited to the following:
- Significant and sustained contributions to the institution, department, or community through service activities. This may include leadership roles, committee work, volunteer efforts, and involvement in professional organizations.
- Any local/regional/national/international awards received for their service efforts

- Faculty Mentor Award: The Faculty Mentor Award recognizes the process by which faculty serve as role models for each other, promoting the professional development of others and creating a supportive, positive working environment. This award is given to one basic science faculty and one clinical faculty. More information can be found here.
- Teaching Excellence Award: The Teaching Excellence Awards are presented by our students to the teaching faculty members who displayed outstanding professional skill and pride in discharging their instructional duties.
- Voluntary Faculty Award: The Voluntary Faculty Award recognized faculty who volunteered their time and effort to further the mission of the Boonshoft School of Medicine without compensation. This award was presented to voluntary faculty who exhibited a strong commitment to teaching and/or research while serving as role models to our medical students.

The Excellence in Medical Student Education Award recognizes those who have a significant impact on the educational experience of our students through their teaching, leadership and engagement with the curriculum.

Faculty Mentor Award
The Faculty Mentor Award recognizes faculty who serve as role models for each other, promote the professional development of others and create a supportive and positive working environment. In most cases, two nominees are selected: a basic science faculty and a clinical science faculty.
