In June, the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services approved the initiation of blood and blood products by paramedics as an “added competency” to be included in the Ohio EMS scope of practice. Dr. Kermit Huebner has been assigned to chair an exploratory committee for a prehospital blood program in our region for the Region 3 EMS Regional Physician Advisory Board.
Interim Department Chair Dr. Brian Springer was honored in Las Vegas at the American College of Emergency Physicians annual meeting for leading the Tactical and Law Enforcement Medicine section from 2022-2024.
EM R3 Dr. Steven Repas coordinated and ran a Mass Casualty Incident training session at White Hall for the BSOM Emergency Medicine Interest Group. Stations included hemorrhage control, tactical primary assessment, and tactical extrication/evacuation. We had 130 students attend! Dr. Repas was assisted by faculty and residents from the Department of Emergency Medicine. A follow up MCI exercise is scheduled for November at the WSU National Center for Medical Readiness.
