Policy 211: Appointment and Promotion for Non-WSU Employed Faculty

Policy Number: 211

Date Approved: 04/07/2026

Executive Responsibility: Executive Committee

211.1 Policy

This policy establishes foundational principles for the appointment, rank, and promotion of non-Wright State University employed faculty who contribute to the Boonshoft School of Medicine's (BSOM) teaching, scholarship, and service missions. The University highly values these faculty contributions, and appointments and promotions will be based on documented evidence of mission-aligned performance, including but not limited to teaching effectiveness, scholarly activity, and service. Promotion in rank recognizes sustained achievement and professional impact rather than time in rank alone.

Decisions will be guided by evidence, applied through transparent and consistent standards, and supported by procedures and criteria maintained in associated documents that may be updated as needed without revising the policy.

  • The BSOM Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development is responsible for overseeing implementation and interpretation.
  • Department Chairs/Unit Heads ensure nominations and recommendations adhere to established criteria.
  • The appointing committees review and recommend candidates accordingly.
