222.1 Purpose
In accordance with LCME Element 12.5,
“The health professionals who provide health services, including psychiatric/psychological counseling, to a medical student have no involvement in the academic assessment or promotion of the medical student receiving those services, excluding exceptional circumstances.”
222.2 Policy
Health professionals are prohibited from being involved in the assessment or promotion of a medical student for whom they have provided health services in the past five (5) years. Students and/or faculty who identify previous healthcare relationship(s) or interaction(s), even beyond the five (5) years, which may impact assessment or promotion decisions of the student shall disclose the conflict by contacting the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions.
Health professionals are prohibited from being involved in the assessment or promotion of a medical student for whom they have ever provided psychiatric/psychological counseling services.
222.3 Assessment Procedures
Prior to completing an evaluation, faculty and residents must attest that they do not have a conflict of interest nor have a physician-patient (health care) relationship in accordance with this policy.
222.4 Promotion Procedures
Members of the Student Promotion Committee must recuse themselves in accordance with this policy and the recusal provisions in the BSOM Faculty Bylaws.
