Our department’s connections facilitate strong internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. These internships allow students to practice real-world skills and receive credit toward their degree.

Student Experiences
Marissa Norgrove
Internship: Disease Surveillance at Wright Patterson Air Force Base
Accomplishments:
- Worked on an epidemiological research project focused on spotted fever group rickettsioses (SFGR) in Airmen.
- This research was crucial for understanding the importance of case classification of animal-borne threats to human health.
Annette Sweet
Internship: Emergency Preparedness with Grace Point Fellowship Church and Warren County Public Health
Accomplishments:
- Collaborated with a local church group to enhance their emergency preparedness for fires, tornadoes, and active shooter situations.
- Created detailed emergency evacuation maps, fact sheets, and a handbook to facilitate effective emergency preparedness.
- Connected the organization with Warren County Public Health to provide ESL classes for Spanish-speaking residents
DW Tindle
Internship: Health District Accreditation
Accomplishments:
- Contributed to the district’s accreditation process by supporting their Community Health Improvement Plan.
- Facilitated focus groups with local residents, summarized findings, and presented them to district leadership.
