Charge and Responsibilities

The Medical Student Honor Code Council is responsible for upholding the principles of integrity, professionalism, and accountability among medical students. It fosters a culture of ethical behavior and mutual respect within the BSOM community, ensuring adherence to the Honor Code, with special focus on the BSOM Professionalism Attributes. The Medical Student Honor Code Council is charged with promoting the honor code, receiving and investigating reports of alleged violations, adjudicating violations, encouraging accountability, fostering a positive learning environment, and reporting and transparency.

Organization

  • Voting. All members of the Medical Student Honor Code Council shall be voting members, except for the Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Admissions who shall be a non-voting member. The chair may only vote in the event of a tie.
  • Quorum. A quorum shall be at least 50% of voting membership present. A quorum is required for all decisions requiring a vote of the committee.
  • Term. Those with administrative appointments shall serve until their administrative role expires. Appointed faculty appointed shall serve a two-year, renewable term. Elected students shall serve a one-year, renewable term.
  • Chair. The Chair of the Medical Student Honor Code Council is appointed by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Admissions and shall serve a one (1) year, annually renewable term.
  • Reporting. The Medical Student Honor Code Council reports to the Dean. The Medical Student Honor Code Council provides an annual report summarizing its activities to the Dean on the confidential business, recommendations, and decisions of the committee. In order for the report to become an official report of the committee, it must be adopted by a majority vote of the members of the committee.

Meetings

The Medical Student Honor Code Council shall meet at the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Admissions when necessary to fulfill the charge and responsibilities of the committee.
