Katherine M. Hertlein, Ph.D.

Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

Biography:

Katherine M. Hertlein, PhD, is a nationally recognized scholar whose research and writing focus on the intersection of couple and family therapy, technology, and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in clinical practice and training. Grounded in systemic and relational theory, her scholarship examines how technology, health systems, and sociocultural forces shape relationships, family functioning, and therapeutic processes.

She is widely known for foundational frameworks on technology and relationships, addressing issues such as intimacy in couples, high conflict couples, online infidelity, digital secrecy, boundary shifts, and technology-mediated betrayal, with an emphasis on translating complex technological change into clinically useful insights and techniques. More recently, her work has expanded to critically examine artificial intelligence in mental health care, supervision, and education, emphasizing ethics, relational integrity, power, and preservation of the therapeutic relationship.

A former Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Hertlein has also published extensively on professional identity, training, telebehavioral health competencies, and clinical assessment. Her scholarship bridges theory, research, and practice, contributing to national and interdisciplinary conversations about ethics, innovation, and the future of relational healthcare.

Theresa Cory

Theresa Cory

Faculty Affairs Coordinator

Biography:

Theresa Cory, BA, is the Faculty Affairs Coordinator for WSU BSOM. She previously worked for Premier Health for over 32 years within the Department of Social Services, CORP (outpatient neuro rehab), Medical Education at MVH involved with Dental Residency and then moving into CME, and lastly with Samaritan Behavioral Health before joining the WSU in 2024.

Theresa’s role within Faculty Affairs encompasses the coordination of faculty appointments, renewals and committee support. She is a strong liaison between medical departments at our partnering entities (Premier Health, Dayton Children’s, WPAFB, Dayton VA and Kettering Health). She also maintains the programs’ broad faculty database ensuring that it is kept up-to-date.

Theresa enjoys time with her grandchildren, gardening, and baking.

Tavoy Palmer

Tavoy Palmer

Graduate Assistant

Biography:

Tavoy T. Palmer serves as the Graduate Assistant for the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State University. In this capacity, Tavoy provides comprehensive administrative support to the Associate Dean, including managing calendars and maintaining confidential files. His work is vital to departmental communication, as he drafts and edits faculty-focused content for weekly newsletters and other official correspondence. Additionally, he leverages his analytical skills to process data from faculty surveys and reports, supporting strategic initiatives related to faculty development, promotion, and tenure.
 
Tavoy is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering at Wright State University. He is currently conducting thesis research focused on the computational investigation of silicon-based qubits. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from the University of South Florida.
 
Beyond his administrative role, Tavoy has a strong technical background, having served as a Lab Technician at TSE Industries and a Student Researcher at the Center for Urban Transportation Research. He is proficient in data analysis and programming, with expertise in Python, MATLAB, and the Microsoft Office suite.
