Faculty Promotion

The Office of Faculty and Clinical Affairs is committed to help our faculty throughout the promotion process.

Promotion Workshop

Our office offers annual workshops that are open to faculty, departmental chairs and departmental personnel who are involved in preparing promotion documents. Held in September, workshop dates are announced in late summer.


Promotion Timeline

The provost's office sets the submission dates at the university level. Our office works within these deadlines to establish a timeline for faculty to prepare their promotion files.

Promotion Schedule for 2018-2019

May 29, 2018 (Tuesday)

Deadline for candidate to initiate promotion process via a written request to the department chair, with a copy to the department promotion committee, and to submit suggested names of external reviewers to the chair of the department promotion committee.

June 12, 2018 (Monday)

Deadline for candidate to submit materials to be sent to the outside reviewers.

August 20, 2018 (Monday)

Deadline for department promotion committee to send out request letters soliciting External review.

September 10, 2018 (Monday)

Deadline for candidate to submit to the department chair the complete promotion document and all materials described in Procedure 310.

November 2, 2018 (Friday)

Deadline for department committee and department chair to complete review of promotion and tenure document for all candidates, for the department promotion committees recommendation and the department chair's letter to be added to each candidates' file, for the department chair to notify each candidate of these additions and send completed promotion files to the Office of Faculty and Clinical Affairs.

November 20, 2018

Deadline for candidate to submit a rebuttal.

January 25, 2019 (Friday)

Deadline for school committee and Dean to complete review of all promotion files, for the school committee's recommendation and the Dean's letter to be added to each file, and for the Dean to notify each candidate of these additions.

February 11, 2019 (Monday)

Deadline for candidate to submit a rebuttal to the BSOM FPAC recommendation.

February 22, 2019 (Friday)

Deadline for Dean to review the promotion files, add letters for or against promotion to the candidate’s file and submit promotion and tenure files and recommendations to the Provost.

March 11, 2019(Monday)

Deadline for the candidate to submit to the Provost a rebuttal to the Dean’s letter.

March 25, 2019 (Monday)

Deadline for the Provost to provide written notification to candidates of the decision and vote of the University Promotion and Tenure Committee.

April 1, 2019 (Monday)

Deadline for candidate to notify the University President and the AAUP-WSU (if bargaining unit faculty) of intent to file an appeal.

April 15, 2019

Deadline for candidate to submit and appeal and supporting documentation.

TBD

President presents candidate who have not filed an appeal to Board of Trustees for approval.
